Master of Science in Computer Science

Duration: 2 years (120 course points)

Degree: Master in Computer Science.

Language of teaching: English.

Tuition Fee: Free of charge, apart from a small fee for compulsory membership in the Students' Union.

Eligibility
Applicants should have an undergraduate degree corresponding to a B.Sc. or B.Eng., and should possess mathematical maturity corresponding to approximately half a year of mathematics courses at university level, including introductory Linear Algebra corresponding to four weeks of study, and have good knowledge in computer programming.
TOEFL (at least 550/213), IELTS (at least 6.0) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency. If you have a degree from a university with English as the official language, this may also suffice

Course outline
The programme consists of 30 points of compulsory advanced courses in Computer Science, plus at least 15 points of elective advanced courses in Computer Science, at most 45 points of elective advanced courses in other subjects, and at most 30 points of basic courses. At the end there is a one-term Master's project (30 points).
There are two recommended lines of study:

1.Efficient Computation : Efficient Computation, all the more important in the future
When computers and efficient methods of computation are combined they have an enormous potential within almost all applications. The combination is used in everything from applications in personal computers to planning for electronic communication, social planning, industrial manufacturing, etc. Efficient computation means great gains, both in better use of working time, natural resources, and money, as well as developing and testing products and ideas in ways that otherwise would not be possible.
The programme gives students necessary insights and expert knowledge to find, evaluate, use, and in many cases develop suitable methods of computation for various problems that they may be faced in their professional careers later, within a wide range of areas. The main focus is on theoretical, mathematical methods.
Courses
The programme starts with the courses Algorithm Theory and Numerical Linear Algebra (or Linear Algebra, if not taken previously) during the first half of the first term. At least six advanced courses in Computer Science should be taken within the programme.

2 .Computer Graphics: The computer graphics group does research on and developing new algorithms for the creation of images from three-dimensional scene descriptions. The special focus is on computer graphics for mobile devices, such as mobile phones. On those platforms the algorithms need to be very efficient both in terms of memory bandwidth and power, and implementations must be very small. Another area of study is programming languages and software architectures suitable for computer graphics applications. We are also looking into algorithms for ray tracing, GPU architectures, graphics hardware, rasterization algorithms, shading languages, and collision detection.
Courses
The programme starts with the courses Algorithm Theory and Numerical Linear Algebra (or Linear Algebra, if not taken previously) during the first half of the first term. At least six advanced courses in Computer Science should be taken within the programme, plus the basic course Computer Graphics (if not done so previously).

Prerequisites
An undergraduate degree (BA/BSc) in a IS-IT related subject matter. The Bachelor degree must include courses in Information Systems Analysis and Design or the equivalent.

English Proficiency Requirements
Since all teaching is in English, a good knowledge of this language is essential. For applicants from the Nordic countries and from English speaking countries this is assumed from the general admission requirements to university education.

For all other applicants a certificate of proficiency is required, preferably through one of the following:
• IELTS score of 6.0 (no less than 5.0 in any component) taken after January, 2000
• Cambridge/Oxford Certificate in Advanced English, or Certificate of Proficiency
• TOEFL test result of at least 550 points (213 computer based; 79 Internet based). An undergraduate degree from a university where all education has been in English

Master's Programme in Banking and Finance

This master’s programme prepares for qualified analytical work within the financial industry. Prerequisites are a Bachelor’s degree with courses in both Business administration and Economics.
As the programme has a clear quantitative orientation, previous knowledge in Financial mathematics and Financial statistics are compulsory.
During the first half of the first semester student’s previous knowledge is set to a common level. Students with a background in Business will then follow two courses in Economics at the intermediary level, and vice versa. During the second part follows a course in business, “Financial Institutions Management”, and a course in “Econometrics”.
The second semester develops the disciplinary core and consists of four courses, dealing with various financial instruments and techniques: “Derivatives”, “Fixed Income Securities”, “Portfolio Theory” and “Applied Econometrics”. The third semester is integrative and combines, beside one elective course, knowledge from the two contributing disciplines. The course “Money and Finance” covers the interplay between monetary policy and capital markets, the courses “Advanced Financial Theory” and “Advanced Financial Empirical Research” give an integrative specialization within the area of financial economics. The latter courses are preparatory for further research within the area.
The fourth semester consists of writing a master’s thesis with relevance for the programme. The thesis is expected to give a substantial contribution to research.
The programme is designed to attract students from both Business administration and Economics. The aim is to create a homogenous student body with a highly specialized interest and prior knowledge in financial economics. Having completed the program students are expected to find work as financial analysts, chief financial officers, portfolio managers etc. The programme also prepares for studies at research level within the subject area of financial economics.

Education start: Autumn 2007.
The Masters Programmes are run over two year's full-time studies.
All coursework will be conducted in English. There are no tuition fees
